A taboo is a strong social prohibition (or ban) relating to any area of human activity or social custom that is sacred and or forbidden based on moral judgment, religious beliefs and or scientific consensus. Breaking the taboo is usually considered objectionable or abhorrent by society.

Cagayan de Oro City is known† as a city of golden friendship. But we cannot escape from the word taboo. Every country and place has its own taboos. Cagayanons are known to be religious and believers. They always go to hear the mass and celebrate it the whole family. Most of the cagayanons spend more time on celebrating or commemorating the day of the saints. They even have to celebrate it with a feast or a big celebration in the town. By this they will give honor and tribute to the saint for giving them good health and prosperity for the whole year.

On top of the list about taboos is the prostitution amidst in a religious city of Cagayan de Oro. Prostitution is so rampant in the heart of the city. It’s like buying sex on the road and have fun. In other places or countries prostitution is legal and it is considered as a profession. It is already given that for women who wasn’t able to go to school and all they want is easy money so prostitution is the best answer to their needs. But the taboo there is that most of them are of minor age. At their young innocent body and minds they were able to sell their bodies to hungry men for sex. Cagayan is a religious city but still prostitution is always a taboo.

The next taboo would be, some cagay anons live in a place where it is prohibited because it is dangerous for flood and typhoon. The dilemma here is that the government of Cagayan de Oro City allow them to live there. Some of them are no home or houses to live so the solution is to put them in that dangerous place. So when the typhoon sendong came most of the casualties are from that place. Many cagay anons died and some are now still missing.
