The 6th Mindanao Film Festival 2010
For the sixth year in the running, the filmmakers of Mindanao are once again invited to participate in the biggest gathering of independent filmmakers this side of the country. Entries shot in, about, or related to Mindanao are showcased in this annual festival for independent films. The entries will be shown in the major cinemas in Davao City and corresponding awards will be given for entries that prove to be a cut above the rest.
There are two main categories for this year’s festival:
Exhibition Films and Student Films
Everyone is invited to participate and submit their entries to be part of the Exhibition Films and Student Films. Interested filmmakers can submit short films under these categories:
• Narrative Feature Length
• Documentary Feature Length
• Short Film
• Documentary Short Subject
• Student Short Film
• Student Documentary Film
The Student Short Film Category and the Student Documentary Category are open to high school and college students. Along with the Short Film and Documentary Short Subject, entries for these categories should have less than 60 minutes running time. Only film entries made from October 2009 until September 2010 will be considered for the festival. These entries should not have been screened during the previous Mindanao Film Festival.
The films should be submitted in DVD format along with the following: English subtitles; entrant’s name and contact information on the case; and a film synopsis with less than 100 words. All entries will be considered finished and final; no works in progress will be accepted. Student entrants have to present a proof of student status on the duration of making the film.
Guerilla Filmmaking Competition
This category of the festival is more exclusive and is a separate competition for guerilla films. Entries for this category will vie for the Red Fist Award. This will be given to the entry “with the best production value” but produced with the lowest budget costs.
Entries for the Guerilla competition should have 5-15 minutes running time. Filmmakers are also required to submit a 25-100 word synopsis for their film entry; a personal resume; samples of their previous works (videos, films); and should their entries be qualified, they are required to attend the Guerilla Filmmaking Competition Orientation (the date and venue will be announced upon informing the qualified applicants).
Application forms, which are to be submitted along with the other requirements for both categories, may be downloaded from the Mindanao Film Festival’s official website. All entries with completed requirements should be submitted on or before September 25, 2010 at the Mindanao Film & Television Development Foundation c/o Alchemy of Vision & Light Productions in Davao City. Shipped entries (postmarked September 25) will be granted an extended deadline and must be received on or before October 2, 2010.
The 6th Mindanao Film Festival 2010 is sponsored by the Mindanao Film and Television Development Foundation, Inc, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Mebuyan Peace Project Inc and Southspot Entertainment. It is the goal of the festival to promote filmmaking among Mindanaoans, and to use it as a tool for self-expression and in endorsing the culture and heritage of Mindanao.
