Give it to Zambo geeks as the “Chosen Ones” this year.

Ateneo de Zamboanga University students Mark Jason Harun (Computer Engineering), Ronald Mariano (Electronics & Communications Engineering) and Jerome Locson (Computer Science) emerged triumphant in this year’s edition of I.T. Quiz Tournament (ITQT) -- The 2nd Mindanao-wide Tertiary Schools ICT Quiz Show, edging last year’s winner Marawi State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) which settled for the second place. The ITQT 2007 was held last July 14 at the Activity Center of SM City-Cagayan de Oro and was participated by 15 colleges offering IT courses.

The third spot was seized by the all-girl team of the University of Immaculate Conception-Davao City after engaging with MSU-IIT boys in a nerve-wracking tie breaker extension of the Final Round handled by StickyMedia Solutions, Inc. (SMSI), which initiated the reformatting of the IT quiz show this year to include electronic buzzers and synchronized big screen display of questions and scores.

Northern Mindanao State Institute of Technology (NORMISIST) of Agusan del Norte and Liceo de Cagayan University complete the Finalists, which came forward after a grueling Elimination Round supervised by STI College-Cagayan de Oro City.  Interestingly, no city or province dominated the set of Finalists unlike last year when Cagayan de Oro’s Capitol University and Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan placed second and third, respectively.

Mr. Paul Ferrer, Mall Manager, SM City-Cagayan de Oro extended the welcome while Mr. Antonio Agustin Rodano,CEO,SMSI delivered the opening remarks.  In his closing remarks, Mr. Elpidio Paras, President, Oro Chamber extolled the success of the event and enjoined the audience to look forward to a bigger ITQT 2008.

Quizmasters were SMSI’s Mr. Jeedo Aquino and Ms. Christine Buyan.

Prior to the quiz proper, Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce toured the participating teams and their respective coaches to Arriba Telecontact, STI College and SMSI facilities for a feel of the ICT situation in the host city.

The pre-event reception was hosted by Town at Rosario Arcade, Limketkai Center while the post-event dinner and party was held at Bigby’s Café and Club Eleven 50, respectively.
