International Acts in Rodelsa Hall

Liceo de Cagayan University’s Rodelsa Hall was graced by two international artists last July 12, 2010. Pianist Kaju Lee and Cellist Emily Dufill staged an awe-inspiring performance at Rodelsa as part of the slated acts for the start of the 2010-2011 Rodelsa Season. The two international female artists captivated the audience with the luring sounds of their cello and piano.

Kaju Lee

Kaju Lee is a famous international collaborative pianist. Prior to travelling the world to share her music, Kaju Lee worked on attaining her degrees at the McGill University in Montreal, Hangyang University in Seoul, and in the Manhattan School of Music in Manhattan. While focusing on her studies in music, Kaju Lee encountered other famous personalities in the same field. She studied with the likes of Maestro Nicholas Carthy, Gait Sirguey, Robert Spillman, Michael McMahon, Mutsumi Moteki and Raymond Beegle among others.

At present, Kaju Lee serves as a doctoral candidate in Collaborative Piano at the prestigious University of Colorado Boulder, the same school where she studied with another renowned name in the field, Professor Anne Epperson.

Her experience as a pianist has brought her to participate in more than a few festivals all over the world. Aside from visiting Cagayan de Oro, Kaju Lee also played for the Salzburg Music Festival in 2006, the Music Academy of the West, the Orford Music Festival, as well as for the Aria Music Festival.

In addition to her extensive musical portfolio, Kaju Lee also performed as a collaborative partner in various countries including Austria, Canada, the United States, and in her homeland Korea. The international pianist has also performed in several lessons and master classes with the likes of Donald McInnes, William Bennett, Robert Langevin, Edith Bers and Zvi Zeitlin among others.

Kaju Lee’s music and performances, whether live or not, was also broadcasted by a few media corporations including the Busan Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Radio.

For the past years, Kaju Lee has held various staff positions at the Pre-college Division of the Manhattan School of Music in New York City, as well as in the Choral Symphony Society in the same city. Nowadays, she serves as a staff pianist for the Sam Houston State University in Texas.

Emily Duffill

Emily Duffill holds a Masters degree in music from the Australian Institute of Music. Aside from this, Emily Duffill also earned herself a Professional Studies Diploma from the Manhattan School of Music in New York. This experienced cello performer and teacher currently serves as a member of the casual staff at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the Macquarie Street in Sydney New South Wales. She also maximizes her capability to share her love and knowledge for music by teaching a number of private students at the Reddam House School at the Bondi Junction.

Although she does teach a handful of private students, Emily Duffill is willing to teach students of all ages, from young aspiring musicians to adults. She takes a different approach on teaching and makes sure that the type of teaching strategy she uses suits the need of every type of student. She bases her teaching strategies according to her student’s age, as well as his or her level of musical experience or musical background.

Her passion for music and teaching has earned her over 20 years of experience. In addition to the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the Reddam House School, Miss Duffill also performs and teaches music in other parts of the world, as well as for various types of causes, including the Manhattan School of Music and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Outreach Program.

She has also managed to gain quite a few awards and recognition for her passion for music. In 2004, Emily Duffill was honored with the prestigious Fulbright scholarship from the New Zealand government. The Fulbright scholarship grant offered her a chance to embark on a graduate cello performance study in New York City.

Emily Duffill has also integrated her passion for music with her love for exploring the benefits and the potential growth of several outreach and charitable programs within her community. As a result, Emily Duffill decided to work for the Musica Viva In Schools program in her homeland Australia. Aside from this, Emily Duffill also established a company that works to promote several performance opportunities, as well as to open more musical avenues for young musicians or aspiring musicians by providing chamber and jazz ensemble entertainment. This company, which is also known as the Ensemble Link, is one of Emily Duffill’s greatest achievements in the music industry.
