Mayor Emano approves budget
for training of call center agents

City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano approved a P200,000 budget for the training of prospective call center employees in Cagayan de Oro, in support to the city government's promotion of the city as the country's information and communications technology (ICT) goldmine.

Mayor Emano revealed today that the amount is the city government's counterpart to a partnership project with the Phillip Morrris, Pueblo de Oro Development Corporation and the Mindanao Polytechnic State College (MPSC) to provide a quality skills training program for Cagayan de Oro residents who plan to make a career in the call center business.

Mayor Emano said, this program will ensure a ready pool of skilled manpower which can be utilized by existing and prospective call center operators in Cagayan de Oro.

This, even as key ICT players in the country are eyeing on the vast potential of Cagayan de Oro in the field of ICT investment because of its well-placed infrastructure and amenities, stable peace and order condition, a highly-skilled and highly-literate labor force, and a relatively cheaper cost of living.

Aside from three existing call centers in the city, two foreign-owned call centers are already set to relocate here in Cagayan de Oro following the aggressive investment promotion made by Mayor Emano in his latest trade mission to India and Germany.

Mayor Emano attributed the phenomenal growth of Cagayan de Oro as the fastest booming economy in the country today, to the full support extended by the local business community led by the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. (Oro Chamber) and the strong collaboration among Christians, Muslims and tribal people which helped maintain a peaceful environment for the Cagayanons and visitors.

In line with his continuing effort to promote Cagayan de Oro as a premier investment and tourism destination in the country today, Mayor Emano is embarking on another trade mission to Australia and New Zealand in September this year.

Mayor Emano is optimistic that his next trade missions will bear good outcomes in terms of more foreign investors and tourists who will consider the vast prospects of tourism and investment activities in Cagayan de Oro. (City Information Office)
