Creation of Oro's 2nd district in the offing
The creation of Cagayan de Oro's second congressional district is now in the offing.
City Mayor Vicente Y. Emano made this disclosure even after he received assurance from Senator Alfredo Lim, chair of the Senate Committee on Local Government that his committee will give priority attention to the approval of the bill, approved earlier by the House of Representatives.
House Bill No. HB05658 authored by Congressman Constantino G. Jaraula of the lone district of Cagayan de Oro is pushing for the creation of a second congressional district in the city by splitting the present lone district.
Mayor Emano said that the creation of a second congressional district in the city will mean more voices to carry the sentiments of the Cagayanons before the Congress.
"I am glad at this new development because it will also mean better and improved services for the growing population in the city," Mayor Emano pointed out.
The city chief executive said that the creation of a second congressional district is very timely as the city experiences an enormous socio-economic progress, securing its position as bustling metropolis in this part of Mindanao.
Once approved in the Senate, the creation of the city's second district will pave the way for the addition of eight more city councilors in the city government's legislative branch or a total of 16 city councilors to occupy the seats at the City Council.
