CdeO joins POPDEV week celebration

As Cagayan de Oro City joins the nation in celebrating Population and Development Week on November 23 to 30, City Councilor Alfonso Goking encouraged parents to develop a positive attitude and interest on responsible parenthood.

During the opening program at the Kiosko Kagawasan in Divisoria which kicked-off the week-long celebration, Councilor Goking who chairs the city council committee on women and senior citizens pointed out that with the economic difficulty experienced by majority of the Filipino people these days, there is no other practical solution than embarking on responsible parenthood.

Responsible parenthood, natural family planning, 3-year birth spacing and breastfeeding may sound like an old tune to us but these are very crucial for us to get out of our present day economic problems, Councilor Goking said.

In reality, most of our problems in the country, be it poverty, criminality, family problems, overpopulation, malnutrition, all boil down to irresponsible parenthood and a weak family foundation, the city councilor added.

Councilor Goking encouraged the people in the community to take the celebration as an opportunity to get involved in worthwhile activities along population and development.

The opening program was attended by various Barangay Women Development Council in the city, as well as representatives from the national line agencies spearheaded by the Commission on Population (POPCOM)-10.

Various activities were lined-up for the week-long celebration such as the "It's All In The Band" Contest on November 25 at Inilog Grill where 11 schools from different parts of the region are expected to participate, and the training on Natural Family Planning Monitoring Tool at the POPCOM Training Center on November 30.

This years Population and Development Week celebration anchors on the theme, Responsableng Pagpapamilya Para sa Kalusugan at Kaunlaran: Sa Tamang Agwat ng Panganganak, Pamilya ay Aangat.
