City Vet launches dog tag campaign
The City Veterinary Office launched in Barangay Bugo today the registration and licensing of all dogs in the city.
City Veterinarian Dr. Perla T. Asis disclosed that the provision of tags for dogs is in line with the city government's campaign along control and welfare of animals in the city as mandated under Ordinance No. 9852-2005.
Dr. Asis said that the launching activity in barangay Bugo will serve as a kick of point for similar activity that the CVO has scheduled for all barangays in the city.
She pointed out that under the said ordinance, all dog owners in the city must register their pets at the City Veterinary Office by paying a registration fee of P20, which will cover rabies vaccination and a dog tag.
A dog that wears a license tag means that it was already vaccinated against rabies and that its owner can immediately be identified in case it can bite a person.
The registration and licensing of dogs is also done to control astray dogs in the city, monitor dog population and promote responsible pet ownership.
It will also make it easier for the CVO to locate the owner of dogs that will be caught during an "Operation Pamatong".
The Animal Control and Welfare Ordinance of Cagayan de Oro was authored by City Councilor Simeon V. Licayan and was approved in 2005.
