Cagayan de Oro City’s Local customs

Local customs is one way to recognize a certain place or country. A certain local produce or product of the place. It is something that the locals can be proud of.  Cagayan de Oro City has a unique local customs that no one can compare. Cagayanons local customs is their pride.

Cagayanons are warm and friendly, they also live together harmoniously. Mindanao is a mixed people and beliefs,  like Christians and Muslim religion. But it is not a hindrance to live a peaceful life in Cagayan de Oro City. Behind the contradiction of their beliefs they live happily and peacefully. If there’s a little conflict they would resolve it right away.

Cagayan de Oro City is blessed with natural resources. They have wide land to cultivate and  plant any produce and sea water to get some sea foods. One of the best is the fruits like the pineapple, mango and banana. Cagayan has this for exports and to supply other places. Sea foods is also abundant in Cagayan de Oro City with fresh fish, squid, shells, sea plants and crabs. Both produce and sea foods come in different varieties.

Other local customs are sweet and spicy like the sweet pastel from Camiguin Island which is also a part of Cagayan and the yummy sour spicy condiment they call it “Pinakurat”. Sweet pastel is a kind of little buns with different fillings the most popular filling is the “yema”  a creamy sweet kind of filling. Other fillings are also available like durian, ube, strawberry, and mango. The condiment from Iligan is also famous with vinegar with a lot of spices, like garlic, union, ginger, black pepper and chili. This vinegar is a good dip for grilled fish, pork and even lechon. Cagayan people are really fun of eating so most of the bonding moments is eating and sharing life experiences.
