Traveling: The Right Clothes
Traveling is a fun learning experience. You get to meet a lot of people and find out stories about interesting places. If you want your travel experience to Cagayan de Oro to be memorable, bring the right clothes.
Kagay-anons love fashion, but many will find it odd if you wore a scarf in the intense noon heat. Here are three categories to consider if you want to spend a fun casual day in Cagayan de Oro City.
Weather
The first factor to consider is the weather. Cagayan de Oro City, like most of the Philippine cities and provinces, has a tropical climate. The average temperature is around 28 °C.
The dry and wet seasons are almost unpredictable. The wet season usually begins in the month of June and ends in November, while the dry season starts in December and ends in May. The driest month of the year is April, and this month is usually when people would head to the beaches and pools to enjoy the summer sun. The wettest month of the year is July.
Make sure you bring enough clothes to cover you up when it rains, and some clothes to help you cool down when it is hot.
Culturally Awkward
Another factor to consider is that although Kagay-anons do not practice a Shibuya culture, they know fashion. People will react when they see someone wearing clothes at the wrong time and at the wrong place.
Ladies normally go for jeans and shirt, tank top (when it’s hot) and simple but fashionable blouses. For really casual walks, like malling, Kagay-anon ladies prefer to wear their favorite shorts.
For men, the simplest casual wear includes a t-shirt, jeans or shorts, and sneakers.
Safe Dressing
Avoid trouble and danger by dressing up properly in public places like the Night Café in Divisoria. Don’t show off your jewelry and other expensive items.
Mobile phones normally attract the attention of troublemakers (like thieves), so keep yours safely tucked inside your bag. Always be aware of your surroundings.
Surviving the Changing Weather
Here are some basic tips on how to survive the ever changing weather in Cagayan de Oro. CDO has a cool dawn temperature, just enough to make you wear a jacket and enjoy a cup of coffee. However, make sure to wear light clothes from 9 am to 3pm, for these are the hottest hours. In addition, bring an umbrella or a jacket in case it suddenly rains.
Dressing up for Night Outs
Another thing to consider is the night life of Kagay-anons. This is where the youth show off their fashionable get-ups. They dress in their best when going to special events, parties and gigs.
If you want to experience what a night out in Cagayan de Oro means, bring some chic evening ensembles.
